CCL2 (MCP-1) is a pro-inflammatory signaling protein which levels increases with age in mice and humans and strikes the immune system's inflammatory fires by attracting macrophage. CCL2 is linked to the reduction of the brain’s ability to produce new nerve cells [21886162; http://stanmed.stanford.edu/2011fall/article9.html]. CCL2 is part of the senescence-associated secretory phenotype [19648977].
