We need a formal Methodology to develop a consistent Ontologies as one wants to avoid inconsistency that require time to be removed. Then one needs efficient Methods for the efficient development of complex Ontologies. So one wants to avoid Redundancies. Especially when one is developing Ontologies in team, so if we are distributed in some fashion and want to develop Ontologies then everybody in that Team has to follow a given formal Methodology.

These methodologies have something in common and be distinguished into three different Activities. There is Ontology management activities, all activities concerned about the development of Ontologies and support activities.
