Selfish DNA

Selfish DNA found in some plat mitochondria and in animals tends to copy itself faster than other DNA, has no function useful to the cell, and in some cases cases actually harms the cell. The fects this selfish DNA cause are similar to the decayed mitochondrial DNA that accumulates as one aspect of human aging. More of the selfish DNA is found in nematodes as they age [http://www.biocompare.com/Life-Science-News/119008-Selfish-DNA-In-Animal-Mitochondria-Offers-Possible-Tool-To-Study-Aging/].
