nuo-2

Symbol: nuo-2
Name: NADH Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase
Entrez gene ID: 172363
Ensembl gene ID: T10E9.7
Species: Worm (Taxid: 6239)

Functional description:
Core subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I).; Protein NUO-2; NADH Ubiquinone Oxidoreductase family member (nuo-2) [Source:RefSeq peptide;Acc:NP_871796] [Ensembl]

Observation:

RNA interference of nuo-2 extends lifespan [15998808]. RNAi against nuo-2 increases mean and maximum lifespan by 33 and 70%. RNAi of nuo-2 during larval stages is necessary and sufficient for increased lifespan, while RNAi only during adulthood fails to extend lifespan. daf-16 mutation fails to prevent lfiespan extension confered by nuo-2 RNAi, while mutation of daf-2 further extend the lifespan of nueo-2 RNAi animals [12471266].

nuo-2 RNAi causes reduced rate of growth to adulthood, reduced pharyngeal pumping, reduced body size, reduced ATP levels (by 60-80%), and reduced defecation and motility [12471266].
